Learning By Doing

Education means to educated someone or to help him/her from not understand until understand. Education is a process of learning that someone teach other not lecturing because it’s a process to both of them not just one. But, nowadays the true essence of educating and education has change. Students especially in Indonesia is force to study and just study from a thing called “text book”, they have to carry a lot of heavy books everyday at their bag. From morning to noon they have to study, study and study they can’t learn about the society and the the place where they are leaving because they already tired with their study based on the text books. What make scarier is after students get a lot of pressure from the school, they also get a lot of pressure at the house, parents force their children to join a lot of courses from math, chemical, and many more course with a simple reason, their children must get a top mark at school so they will be have a good future. But, who can prove it?

Base on the data 50% unemployed person have a bachelor degree with a good score and of course there is a reason to explain this situation. Students start from kindergarten always told that if you want to have a good future you must study hard, and be the best. Don’t think about other just do it for yourself, get a good score with everything you can, even cheat if you have to, and I can say that it’s true. Students will do everything to get a good score at school, because if they don’t, their parent will be angry and punish them and it really happen with my cousin. If he get a bad score his parent will punish him. So, he will do anything to get a good score. To help my argument I already did a small research about it. I collect a data from an elementary students from first grade until third grade and from 15 students which I asked 10 of them said that they will choose cheating to get a good score because their parent will give them a present.

School and college is a place where we can get a good education. It not a pressure cooker that always press and make students compete each other to get a good score. If you just study based on the text book do you really believe that you can memorize everything from it? I don’t need to do a research to get the answer because I believe the answer will be no. Who can memorize all subjects that written on books? But, nowadays even all of us know that and realize it that no one can remember all books that they read, why students still need to study using this way? What students need is a practice about morale, how they act in the society, and how they act in real world not just based on text book. It’s no use to have a good brain. But, don’t have a good characteristic. In Indonesia students always forced to study, study, and study. Parents and teachers don’t care about their attitude, it’s very different with Australia. I once read an article that make me realize how bad Indonesia education is, “In Australia all of elementary teacher said that they don’t feel they failure if their students can’t geed a good score. But, they will be feel failure if their students are cheating to get a good score”. In Indonesia  teachers don’t care about that problem. Students will be forced to get a good score and if they don’t they will be not graduate, and what make is worse is teachers doesn't care from where students get that score, “cheat if you have to. But, you must do it carefully and don’t let me know” this is a word from my Senior high school teacher and I still remember it until now. When I ask  my friend from Elementary Education faculty, she said that, the method that Indonesia use is a bad method, where the teacher stand in front of students and give them one way lecture and it’s really boring, also students must bring a certain book for a certain subject. So, if there are seven subjects in a day, students must bring seven text books in same day beside their note books. She also said that compare to the other country like Finland, Indonesia Method is so scary. Education in Indonesia is full of test and homework  But, in Finland there is just a few test and there is no national test until students finish their high school and take matriculation examination to enter college. In Indonesia homework is very important to teach students about discipline. But, in Finland homework only take a half hour maximum of students time at home. There are only a few teachers who can create a nice study atmosphere, most of teachers still use one-way method to teach students and it just make students boring. In Finland  teachers always teach in fun way and students is divided by small group, so they can improve more and more active. Because, active students is a key to success.

From what my friend told me, I can make a conclusion that Indonesia learning method must be changed and to do that we can send a letter to the government and tell them about it. We also can tell the headmaster or a school principal about this issue, are they want to create a robot that only know about study or they want to create human with a heart. Also we can talk to parents about this education method. Are parents really realize it that with this kind of learning method they slowly make their child into an anti-social person and only know about how to live inside a book not live in the society.

Idealist VS Realist

"I'm not an idealist anymore, I'm a bitter realist
-SoeHokGie-

I found a interesting quote from Soe Hok Gie, if you don't know Soe Hok Gie, he is an Indonesia Activist who bring down Soekarno, the first Indonesia president down from his crown with all of college students in 60's era. Beside the one that I wrote down on this post, he still has a lot of quotes and it's all come from his idealist mind. I don't want to talk about his other quotes. I just want to talk about one of his quote, "I'm not an idealist anymore, I'm a bitter realist". I don't know the true meaning of this quote and why he can think like this. So, I try to take it and make my own meaning from this quote, because of that I want to say sorry if someone out there who read my post and know the true meaning of this quote, I just want to share my feeling about this quote.

I have heard another quote, but I don't know who is the maker. It said "some people say that idealism is the last luxury that young generation had" and now I want to see it from my view point and try to combine it with the first quote. Everyone has their dream and own idealism and of course I had my own idealism too it sound like this "be a candle that wiling to be burnt down just to light up the dark" and of course I never forget about my idealistic dream. But, in this modern era I think I will not survive if I just live from my idealism only. This era is like a jungle for me, the stronger will be winner and the weaker one will always be a loser. So, from that point of view I start to thinking and feel that I will not live for just one week with this idealism, I must face this cruel reality where people will fight each other just to have a single bread and a nice place to sleep. With environment as my teacher, now I understand I live in such bad world. starvation, war, corruption, and many other bad things happen and it seem no one care anymore. I can't say that all of people not care, but what I say is almost all people is doesn't care. They look busy with their own activity, and for what? MONEY. Without money you will not survive in this world, I don't care how smart you are, or how good you are, and how good looking you are, without money you will become nothing, am I right? I start to realize this when I saw a man that I admired so much because of his idelaism "to make this world especially Indonesia my country to be a better place" now start to crumble little by little just because of money. At the first I know him, he never talk about the money he like to said "do what you need to do, and money will come after that" but now he just think that "if you have an idea, it will not work if you don't have money. So, before thinking about an idea think about the budget, first" and you know, it really suck and I saw it with my own eye and hear with my own ear when he said that thing. After that I start to realize, you will not get a food just from your idealism only. I also find that some people even use his idealism to getting money for himself, example: he is a church activist, everyday he just give a lecture for young Catholic people about idealism and how as a Catholic you must act in this cruel world. But, in real life he just did it for money, he will make a proposal to Church and ask for fund to support his activity and of course to make him survive in this world. For these two type of person, I realize that all of people in this world is wearing a mask in order to survive, they throw away their ego, they throw away their idealism just to survive in this world, another example is: at the office, like or dislike a subordinate must always smile to the superior, is that right? It's okay if the superior is a good person. But, if the superior is a bad person are the subordinate will not smile to him/her? the answer will be a big no, all of subordinates will still smile to the superior whatever the superior look like. I start to understand that this kind of life that I need to live for. I need to wear a mask in front of anyone, even I try not to wear it. Now, I don't know who am I, I don't know either I wearing a mask or not. I start to confuse about what is the right thing and the bad thing, everything is so blur. So, back to the top, that's why I like the quote"I'm not an idealist anymore, I'm a bitter realist" like it or not, I need to bury down my idealism if I want to survive. I'm not saying that I will throw it away, I'm just saying that I will bury it deep inside my heart. So, even I wear a mask outside, at least I still realize that what I do is wrong and I still keep "the candle" burnt inside my heart and someday I will open my mask and I will light up this dark world. Yeah, "some people say that idealism is the last luxury that young generation had" and of course even right now I wearing a mask I still had my idealism dream deep inside my heart. and it still ready to blast out from my heart when the time is come....

Love our parents

Posted by Dart_Leonhart on 4:43 PM comments (0)

Hello everybody, I will write my blog again today and maybe this post will be a little bit different with my other post.  I will write about "Parents", two people man and woman who give us everything we want, right? If we don't have them we will never be like this, even right now maybe some of you will said that "I don't know my parents they leave me at orphanage . But, still without them you will never come to this world. So, whoever you are you must at least said "thank you" to you parents.
I will talk about what I feel about my parents right now. It's just a share, so I hope whoever read this post I hope you will not laugh after this. I live and stay in Indonesia. But, I stay in a different city with my parents because of my study and right now I stay at a dormitory and I already stay here for 4 years until now. At first, I think living without my parents is a freedom and yes it is. I can do whatever I can without hear my parents yelling at me especially my mother. I feel that I'm a bird that flew trough my golden cage at that moment, free at last. But, as the time flew and when I'm older, and also when one of my friend lend me a book name "Manusia Setengah Salmon" written by "Raditya Dika.

I start to thinking what he wrote on his book is absolutely correct. He wrote like this "I must think again about "stand alone"concept. It should be like this, along with our increasingly age, we don't want to be more stand alone from our parents. But, along with our increasingly age, we must closer to our parents". He added, " we can't always met our parents, the biggest possibility is our parents will leave this world first. Our parents will leave us alone. And if that already happen, we can't hear their annoying yell anymore".
I cry after I read this part and I thinking that is damn true, I will never hear their voice anymore if they already go first. And for the first time, I never feel this fear, I never feel this longing with my parents. I'm so afraid that they will go and leave me alone and the worst is I still can't make them proud and said "this is my son". They always called me. But, sometimes I ignore it and think that they are disturb me and "my activity" without realize how important my activity is, my parents is most important one. Believe me all of you who read this post, especially you who study abroad and live alone, you parents really loves you with everything they have. Their yelling is what we hate most. But, we never realize that yelling contains their big love for us.
You know guys. Now, I always think that I don't want in one moment, when my parents already gone, I will look at my phone and hope that they will call me again, just because I often ignore they call for me when they still alive. SO, for all of you who still have your parents, love them and make them proud with you. For those who already lost both their parents or still have one of them, pray for them who already leave you first and said that you always fine in here, someday you will also follow them, and take care what you still have now with all you can and all you have.
Actually, our parents "over protective" attitude is the best nuisance that we ever get, so don't waste it.
thank you very much to Raditya Dika, although you don't know me. But, you already taught me a very wonderful thing that I must realize in this short life.
